Daniil Mukhametov is a Russian railway worker, conscientious objector and anti-war activist. He refused to service military rail transports and fled Russia to escape persecution and forced conscription.

Why his legal defence is urgent
In August 2024, Daniil was detained by officers of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB). According to the Our House human rights dossier, he was beaten, had his breathing obstructed with a plastic bag and was held in custody.
France has ordered Daniil’s transfer to Lithuania, where a criminal investigation was opened against him over his alleged unlawful border crossing after escaping from a Russian transit train. Our House warns that a transfer could expose him to further removal to Russia, where he risks renewed persecution and forced conscription.
The avenues for further appeal against the transfer decision in France have been exhausted. On 24 August 2026, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) refused a request to suspend his transfer as an interim measure. On 11 September 2026, Our House lodged an individual application against France with the Court.
